Patek Philippe Ref. 5270P-001 Perpetual Calendar Chronograph. Platinum case, diameter 41mm with screw-down crown giving water-resistance to 30 metres. Manually wound CH 29‑535 PS Q Calibre movement, 28,800vph, 33 jewels, 456 parts and a power-reserve 55-65 hours. Signed with the Patek Philippe seal, the lovely movement is visible through the sapphire crystal case-back, or can be covered with the additional platinium case-back. Functions:  Chronograph. Central chronograph hand. Instantaneous 30-minute counter. Perpetual Calendar. Day, month, leap year and day/night display in apertures. Date by hand. Moon phases. Seconds subdial. Salmon dial, Arabic numerals from 10 to 2, and applied markers at the other hours. Brown alligator leather strap with a platinum single-folding clasp.

Heir to generations of great Patek Philippe classics launched since 1941, the 5270 perpetual calendar chronograph is now available in platinum for the first time. A beautiful hand-wound CH 29‑535 PS Q movement is housed within the platinum case, the first such Patek calibre produced entirely in-house, an interesting combination of complications – as the perpetual calendar is a complication which measures long intervals of time – The most advanced of calendar watches, is designed to recognise various month lengths and even leap years, requiring readjustment only once per hundred years, and the chronograph is designed to measure short intervals of time, typically tens of minutes. As well as having an day/night indicator, leap year indicator, and moon phase display.

The Manufacture reimagines this timepiece in a design with a classic yet original look. The classic design of the case, with its concave bezel, beautiful two-tier lugs, and correction push-pieces that are satin-brushed on the sides and polished on top, is enhanced by the brightness of platinum, the most valuable metal of all but also the toughest to work with. This is a first for Patek to produce a 5270 in platinum, but the dial takes the spotlight away from the precious metal. The dial has been coloured in the iconic salmon and there are vintage-style Arabic numerals from 10-2, and at the other hours, applied markers, in soft black, hands are matching as well. Really brings the old-school inspirations to surface.
