Bremont Watches
A quintessentially British brand, Bremont watches pay tribute to the great history of British watchmaking, as well as their passion for mechanical engineering and aviation. Each timepiece is a certified chronometer and is tested to rigorous aviation standards. Ever since the brand’s inception, Bremont watches have achieved considerable success thanks to their consummate artistry, style and precision.
The History of Bremont Watches
Lifelong flight enthusiasts, brothers Nick and Giles English began their foray into watchmaking after a tragic accident in 1995. Their father, a Royal Airforce veteran, had been taking part in an air show with Nick when the aeroplane they were in crashed. To honour his memory, the brothers quit their jobs to learn the art and business of watchmaking. However, one thing proved to be a problem, and that was what they were going to call their company.
This was all resolved following another fateful aeroplane flight in the late ‘90s, when the brothers were flying their 1930s’ bi-plane and were forced to make an emergency landing at a farm in France. The farmer let them hide their aeroplane in his barn and offered them shelter. By chance, he was a watch enthusiast and veteran pilot. To thank him for his generosity, the brothers promised the farmer that his kind acts would not go unforgotten. His name, was Antoine Bremont.
From the outset, Bremont watches were designed to prove worthy of the English family’s RAF heritage. The company therefore wanted all of their timepieces to be able to withstand the rigours of military airflight, working with companies such as aircraft ejection seat manufacturer Martin-Baker. While working with the company, Bremont developed a watch collection that had a very specific clientele in mind, people who had been ejected from Martin-Baker seats. The watchmaker later released a companion series, the MBII, that was available for everyone.
As a company run by aviators, Bremont often consults with pilots of specific aircraft and individual squadrons. An example of this is 2010’s ALT1-WT World Timer, which was commissioned to satisfy the needs of C-17 Globemaster transport jet crews. The brand also creates watches based on their most popular timepieces and issues them to specific aviation crews with added details that relate to their history.
Other notable additions to the Bremont catalogue include the Supermarine, named after the legendary Supermarine Spitfire. The company also launched the limited edition H4-Hercules in homage to the mighty Spruce Goose.
