Silver dial, with the Apollo XVII patch design. Small seconds, 30 minutes, and 12 hour sub-dials, with black hands. Central luminous hours, minutes, and seconds hands with black outer minutes track. Fixed black bezel with silver tachymetric scale. Scratch resistant sapphire crystal with black Omega Speedmaster Professional writing upon the glass beneath the 12 o’ clock position. The Apollo 17 mission was the final manned mission to the moon in NASA’s Apollo program. Launched on December 7, 1972, it was crewed by astronauts Eugene Cernan, Ronald Evans, and Harrison Schmitt. Cernan and Schmitt landed on the lunar surface while Evans remained in orbit aboard the Command Module. They conducted three moonwalks, collected lunar samples, and performed scientific experiments. Cernan, as commander, was the last person to walk on the moon’s surface, making his way back to the lunar module Challenger after Schmitt. The mission ended successfully on December 19, 1972, marking the conclusion of the Apollo program’s lunar exploration.
