Enicar, a Swiss watch brand founded in 1913 by Ariste Racine in La Chaux-de-Fonds, gained recognition for its precision and durability. The name “Enicar” is “Racine” spelled backward. By the 1950s and 1960s, Enicar was known for its tool watches, particularly the Sherpa series, which became famous for their use in extreme conditions, including Himalayan expeditions. The Sherpa Graph, worn by Formula 1 drivers, and the Sherpa Dive, a robust diver’s watch, further cemented Enicar’s reputation. The brand was also a pioneer in automatic and water-resistant watches. However, the quartz crisis of the 1970s led to Enicar’s decline, and it changed ownership multiple times. Despite this, vintage Enicar watches remain highly sought after by collectors for their unique designs and innovative technology.
