The Rolex Double Red Sea-Dweller (Ref. 1665) was introduced in the late 1960s as a professional dive watch developed with COMEX and U.S. Navy divers. Its nickname comes from the two lines of red text on the dial reading “SEA-DWELLER” and “SUBMARINER 2000.” Rated to 2000 feet (610 meters), it featured a helium escape valve—a groundbreaking innovation for saturation diving. Produced until the mid-1970s, the Double Red 1665 is highly collectible due to its rarity and transitional role in Rolex’s dive watch evolution.
