Created in 1931 for British polo players in India, the Reverso solved a practical problem: protecting fragile watch crystals during matches. Swiss businessman César de Trey challenged Jaeger-LeCoultre to design a reversible case, and engineer René-Alfred Chauvot patented the ingenious sliding-and-flip mechanism. Its clean Art Deco lines became iconic, and the blank metal caseback invited engraving and personalisation. After fading post-war, the Reverso was revived in the 1980s and evolved into complications like Duoface, Tourbillon and Tribute models. Today, it remains one of horology’s most recognisable rectangular watches and a cornerstone of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s heritage.
